Lighting is an important element when one is decorating or doing up their home. And at Bhamini, under the home decor category we have a sub category for lighting by the same name. We have maintained our core objective of showcasing handmade and handicraft products in this category too. We offer traditional art of Andhra Pradesh called Tholu Bommalata in the form of lamps. The original art is expressed in the form of leather puppets. But with time, new mediums are being used by the artisans to express the art. So, these lamps are also made of leather (goat hide) used for making the puppets. The lamps come in various sizes as follows : 5 inch Leather Lamps, 8 inch Leather Lamps, 12 inch Leather Lamps, 16 inch Leather Lamps and 24 inch Leather Lamps. Depending on the size, the lamps can be placed on table tops or directly on the floor. There are basic two shapes in each sizes, namely, round and square. The lamps are painted by hand using natural colours. Some of the designs have multicolours while some designs are created using only one colour. The designs are mostly traditional kalamkari motifs depicting leaves, flowers and elephants and peacocks. Some designs depict scenes from mythology and also exhibit figures of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Lord Hanuman, to name a few. The designs literally come alive when the lamps are lit up.
We highly recommend these traditional artform based leather lamps for your home decor. It will be a piece that represents a part of our great Indian art and culture. We humbly request you to kindly support the artform and the artisans. Visit our store to view the beautiful and attractive range of leather lamps.
